Introducing the User Interface

Odoo has a "clean" interface which presents the user with a consistent, easy-to-learn format.

An Odoo page provides navigation, content, and actions to the user.

Menu Bar

The primary navigation tool is a horizontal bar on top of a page which contains the main menu items.

Menu Item

The vertical window to the left of the page contains detailed items for each main menu item.

Here, for example, are the menu items contained in the Messaging main menu item.

Search Box

Below the Menu Bar and to the right is the Search Box. Type in a string of characters, a word or a phrase in the box to find content.

Content Window

The bottom right side of the page displays the content of a menu item.

Content Views

Icons below and to the right of the search box indicate ways that content can be displayed.

Kanban View

Lists all records in a card-like format. Can sort with drag-and-drag action.

List View

Lists all the records. Displays a few fields. Ideal for scanning.

Form View

Lists one record at a time. Displays details. Ideal for entering data.

Calendar View

Displays time-based attributes in a calendar.

Gantt View

Displays time-based attributes in a timeline.

A button (like Save) or a verb (like Discard) represent an action that a user can select in a page to do something.

A red button indicates the priority or preferred action.

Multiple Buttons

Other actions that can be performed appear on the left side of the second row. For example, Close Project and Pending.

Status Bar

For displayed content with a status (for example, a Project), a status workflow appears on the right side of the second row.

The current status is highlighted in blue.
